How To Prevent Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are a very common anorectal condition that affects millions of people around the world. Over half of all people will develop symptomatic hemorrhoids at some point. Hemorrhoids don’t cause pain normally, only infected hemorrhoids hurt. The good news is that there are a number of simple strategies to prevent hemorrhoids from interfering with your daily life:

1. Eat more fiber
Hemorrhoids are more likely to occur in people who have infrequent bowel movements. Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Doing so softens the stool and increases its bulk, which will help you avoid the straining that can worsen symptoms from existing hemorrhoids. Add fiber to your diet slowly to avoid problems with gas.

2. Drink water
Drink lots of fluids. Stay well hydrated to keep stools soft so they’re easier to pass. Adequate hydration from water is the key to having healthy bowel movements. Water is the best choice. Drink plenty throughout the day.

3. Exercise
Exercise regularly. Harvard Health suggests 20 to 30 minutes a day of moderate aerobic exercise, like taking a brisk walk, to stimulate your bowels and keep you regular.

4. Don’t strain
Straining and putting more pressure on the veins in your rectum is one of the most common causes painful or bleeding hemorrhoids. In some cases, this can happen as a result of pushing too hard when trying to have a bowel movement.

5. Don’t read & play games in toilet
Make your bathroom time into an express experience. Don’t play games or read when taking number 2. Hemorrhoids are very often a cause of sitting on toilet for too long over the years.

6. Clean up
Keep the anal area clean. Although the reason isn’t clear, some studies show a correlation between having a clean bum and hemorrhoids—in favor of personal hygiene, of course. In one study of 138 people, scientists found washing up after you poop and cleaning your bottom in the shower had a significant effect on whether study participants got hemorrhoids. Bathe or shower daily to cleanse the skin around your anus gently with warm water. If showering is not possible then use Gel Wipe to keep you clean.
